东街村临汀江，距城约2公里，是平原村。村名取自它位于汀州城东，且几百年前即有街市。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

民国时村属第一区，设有乡一级建制。建国后又属第二区（大同），1958年撤区并乡后改属城关镇。1959年归城关公社，1960年公社化后属大同公社并设东街大队，1961年成立大同工委后划归东埔公社。1984年改设东街村，属大同乡。[1]
