下调吴村是合溪乡所辖的行政村，与上调吴村同源。[1]

公元1280年，吴姓祖先由江北迁居龙岩石牌，再迁至此，取名调吴。因居地位于下方，故称下调吴。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1949年前，此地属汤湖乡的调吴保；解放后归第八区汤湖乡，设调吴农会。1958年划为调吴管理区，隶属合溪英雄公社；1961年转入汤湖公社，成为调吴大队；1971年划归合溪公社。1984年4月，调吴成为合溪乡下的村委会。1989年3月，调吴分设上、下两个村民委员会，下调吴延续至今。[1]

2021年1月，村子获命名为2020年度龙岩市「平安村居（社区）」；2021年11月，福建省爱卫部门将本村评定为卫生村，称号为「2021年福建省卫生村」；2023年1月与2024年1月，又先后获2022年度、2023年度的同类命名。[1]

经济[edit]

博雅地名网称，本村是合溪乡最早有人外出深圳、广州做电子产品生意的村子，之后带动了许多村民外出经商。2011年，村民人均纯收入为5067元。[1]

村中有一处国有林场。[1]
