象湖村位于湖山乡东南部，靠近天科岽、凉伞岽山脚，地处闽粤两省三县交界，距县城60多公里，北面紧邻乡政府所在地。[1][2]

名称[edit]

相传过去有大象到湖中洗澡，村因此得名。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1951年至1958年设象漳乡。1958年至1961年归下洋火箭公社管辖，为其中的象湖管理区；1961年6月至1965年4月设象湖公社。1965年秋，象湖公社并入湖山公社，此地遂称象湖大队。1984年起为湖山乡象湖村民委员会。[1][3]

其后，村中的桂竹里与小象湖两个自然村划出，另设桂象村民委员会，见桂象村条目。[3]

地理环境[edit]

村庄坐落在天科岽、凉伞岽山脚下。村的东南一侧邻接平和县秀峰乡与芦溪镇，西南一侧与广东大埔相邻。[2]

据博雅地名网所载，村中有289户、约1085人，分为8个村民小组；村域面积为7平方公里。[2]

村民以农业为主，大力发展烤烟和蔬菜种植，村里建有烤烟基地。[2]
