明代嘉靖年间的《龙岩县志》记载，表政里黄坊社有五处聚落，其中一处名为圳背。圳背的读音后被雅化为「进贝」，村名由此而来。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

旧属紫岗乡；解放后曾划入中原乡，1957年撤区并乡后归红坊乡。[1]

1958年起设进贝大队。村名后曾改为红进，之后又改回进贝；1984年设红坊乡进贝村委会。[1]
