园田塘村位于西陂街道北部，总面积5760亩[1]。村名源于清乾隆年间的一处水塘：乾隆元年（1736年），知州张廷球安置了十一户流民及贫民，分给地一百五十亩，建房十四间，并开凿一口水塘，即园田塘，此后该地以园田塘为名[1][2]。

历史沿革[edit]

旧时这里是外江山社的圆田塘一带。民国31年（1942年）划归西墩乡，1945年改编为保；解放后归西陈区[2]。1957年改属西陂乡并设园田塘村；1958年称西陂公社园田塘大队，其后隶属几经变动，1961年5月复归西陂公社[2]。1984年设园田塘村委会，属西陂乡管辖；1992年冠镇名为西陂镇园田塘村，2013年改称西陂街道园田塘村委会[2]。
