莲新社区位于新罗区西城街道，靠近莲花山公园，又是新设立的社区，故取名莲新。[1]

社区先后于2021年1月、2024年1月公布的龙岩市「平安村居（社区）」名单中列名，分别对应2020、2023年度。[1]

1999年，莲新居委会设立；2002年，它改称莲新社区居民委员会。[1]
