西城街道位于新罗区城区西部，因地处城区西部而得名。[1]

街道在龙岩市「平安乡镇（街道）」的年度评定中多次入选，分别为2020、2022、2023年度名单。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

明代，今街道一带属铁石乡在坊里的若干村落。清代至民国初，此地为西坊与陈陂社的苏溪村。[2]

1933年，此地分属新罗区的西安乡与莲山乡；1937年3月，此地分属第一区西安联保与莲山乡联保。1941年后又分属西墩（实验）乡与曹莲乡的若干保。[2]

建国后，西安、苏溪两村归西陈区管辖，1953年改归附城区。1956年两村设为城关镇辖下的居委会，1958年，城关镇变作城关公社，两村各设生产大队。1979年复设城关镇。1981年冬，城关镇被撤销，原辖区改设4个街道，西城街道初期下辖居委会4个、村委会2个。2018年，街道辖7个社区居民委员会。[2]

著名人物[edit]

魏梦云，字岳秋，西城人，生于清同治五年（1866年），卒于1926年。[1]章子镛，西城罗桥村人，生于清光绪二十七年（1907年），卒于1984年。[1]郑起英，字濯斯，西城西安村人，生于清光绪二十三年（1897年），卒于1982年，自曾祖至其本人四代行医。[1]
