在龙岩市主城区东边，有一个隶属新罗区的街道，因位于东部而得名，又简称东城。[1][5]

辖区内的闽西工农银行旧址，今为全国重点文物保护单位。[6][7]

历史沿革[edit]

今街道地域在明代属铁石乡的在坊里。清道光十五年（1835年）起，直到民国初年，它先后归入州前坊与平在坊。[2]

民国时期，这里的归属多次变动。1934年隶属第一区；1941年12月，部分保划入合作镇，其余保归平铁乡；1944年改由新罗镇管辖。[2]

1949年11月，这里分别是州前村（后改名州安村）和附城区的东新、社兴两村。1958年隶属城关公社，1979年改属城关镇。[2]

1982年1月设立东街街道办事处。初期，街道下辖的居委会有东门、东风、东宝、双井、红龙、松涛和平寨，另有东街、社兴、东新三个大队。1998年时，街道管辖13个居委会。[1][2] 2003年，东街社区由东街、双井、红龙三处整合而成；北龙社区则是北园与龙凤两处合并的结果。[3][4]

名胜古迹[edit]

闽西工农银行旧址位于下井巷，建造于1927年，是一幢单体四层的骑楼式砖木建筑，占地约132平方米。[6]

1930年9月，闽西苏维埃政府在此开办闽西工农银行，当年11月7日投入营业。据维基百科，它是福建各革命根据地中较早设立的金融机构之一。[6][7]

2005年5月11日，旧址列入福建省第六批文物保护单位；2013年3月5日，国务院列其为第七批全国重点文物保护单位。[7][6]

著名人物[edit]

东城人连贤基又名仰山，生于光绪六年（1880年）。1913年，他当选为国会众议院议员。[1]
