1952年设小松十二区李园乡，1956年改为小松区李园乡，1958年成为小松公社李园大队，1984年改用今名。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

报恩寺在村中，是建瓯市文物保护单位。[2]

文化[edit]

2021年11月，省爱卫办授予李园村「2021年福建省卫生村」称号。[1]
