湖溪村位于金坑乡西部：东南与和平镇接壤，南侧隔着一段距离与桂林乡相望，西北靠下黄街村，北边为重下村。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

村名的由来，博雅地名网记有两说：一说地形如湖，中间有小溪流过；另一说因村所在的自然村名叫湖溪。[1]

明清两代，这里归昼锦上乡管辖，属三十八都。[1]

1961年脱离和平公社，并入新设的金坑公社；1980年，一部分地块划出建重下大队，本村则改称湖溪大队；1984年转为村民委员会。[1]

2021年11月，村庄被福建省爱卫办命名为「2021年福建省卫生村」。[1]
