历史沿革[edit]
明清时期此地属昼锦乡四十一都，称昼锦坊，后改称余家坊。民国时期此地做过集市，设有余林乡政府。[2]
1951年归横坑乡，次年改设余山乡。1958年成立余山大队并隶属肖家坊公社，1961年改属桂林公社，1984年转为村委会。[1]
1984年9月，本村属桂林乡行政区，改称余山村。[2]
地理环境[edit]
金溪发源于盖竹村的巫山，全长6.2公里，流经本村，村内建有秋苗水电站。[2]
村内地形以丘陵山区为主，地面高程一般在海拔612米。已探明的矿藏有金矿、青石矿、高岭土矿、硫铁矿与粘土矿。[2]
经济[edit]
耕地1114亩，粮食作物以水稻为主，主要经济作物为烟叶与蔬菜。竹林面积1.2万亩。境内有罐头厂与竹木加工厂两家企业。[2]

地名来历：村庄以余姓为主，故名。[1]
村中有余氏宗祠，以及旧巷、石拱桥、城门与魁星楼等古迹。[2]

第五批中国传统村落名录于2019年6月收入余山村。[1]
