湖屯村为外屯乡的中心村，距县城27.5千米。村子下辖6个自然村，也是乡内农副产品的集散地。[1][2]

村子地处丘陵，四面环山，中间一条河流穿过。流经村子的河段上有三座石拱桥，依次名为洋头桥、洋中桥和洋尾桥。[2]
