下园村位于政和县镇前镇，早先称夏园，后因读音相近改称下园。[1]

地名与沿革[edit]

此地夏季清凉，俗传六月天里可冻死鸭子，早先称作夏园；后因两字读音相近，书写时改为下园。[1]

这里在民国时期先后设有下园保与顺政保，归镇前乡辖；1951年曾设下园乡，隶属第二区。1958年成为下园大队，1969年归镇前公社，1984年设为行政村。[1]

荣誉[edit]

下园村于2015年10月被纳入「福建省第一批省级传统村落」；2020年11月，村庄进入南平市「绿盈乡村」中级版的村庄名单；2021年2月，又上榜「2018至2020年度省级文明村镇社区」。[1]
