虎头山村位于忠信镇，村南有一座山叫南山，山形似虎头，村子因此称为虎头山。该山读音转为「斧头山」，又因谐音缩称「湖山」。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

清代属忠信里，民国属游村乡。1951年划入第九区寺前乡，1952年改属第十区忠信乡，1956年归仙阳区忠信乡。1958年改属忠信人民公社，称湖山生产大队。1961年，本村曾是湖山公社的驻地；1962年6月复属忠信公社。1981年，因与九牧公社的湖山大队重名，本村改称虎头山大队。1984年9月改设虎头山村村民委员会。[1]
