翁村位于水北街镇东北部、浦城与松溪交界处，东距松溪县祖墩乡下仓村约二公里，南邻东路村、际岭村[1]。村名由来是宋初由江西铅山县一位姓翁的人来此开基[1]。博雅地名网记全村人口1350人，共335户（年份未注），直辖5个自然村，村民小组10个[2]。

名胜古迹[edit]

村中的南禅寺又称五谷仙庵，博雅地名网称建于明崇祯年间，寺中塑有观音佛、如来佛等全身塑像，每年农历五月二十五日为庙会[1][2]。

历史沿革[edit]

民国时属水北乡，1949年属第三区，1951年驻临江，1952年设翁村乡，1956年改隶石陂区，1958年隶属水北公社翁村大队，1960年一度改归观前公社，1961年复回水北公社[1]。1981年起为水北街公社的翁村大队，1984年设村民委员会，1993年乡改镇后仍称翁村村民委员会[1]。
