篷尾村是水北街镇东南部的行政村，县级行政区划资料及博雅地名网亦写作「蓬尾村」。村名由来是村处溪洲尾上，溪洲多茅草，浦城方言称植物茂盛丛生为「蓬」[1]。2012年12月，村庄被评为首批「中国传统村落」[2]。博雅地名网记全村现有人口1300人（年份未注），下设2个自然村，村民小组12个[1]。

名胜古迹[edit]

村中的三贤吴氏宗祠奉祀北宋吴育、吴充及吴充之父吴待问，祠始建于宋代，清乾隆四十年（1775年）重建，为县级文物保护单位[1][3]。

历史沿革[edit]

民国时属水北乡，1949年属第三区，1950年改属第三区驻临江的乡，1952年归第十三区，1956年改隶石陂区，1958年并入水北公社，1960年属观前公社，1961年改属水北公社[1]。1981年起为水北街公社的篷尾大队，1984年设村民委员会，1993年乡改镇后仍称村民委员会[1]。
