锦城村是临江镇下辖的行政村。村名原为旧城，因西汉时余善在此筑城抗汉而得名；清末村口拱门题有「春光似锦」，遂改称锦城。[3]

历史沿革[edit]

民国时属临江镇。1950年代先后隶属临江乡、第三区和临江区，1958年属临江公社锦城大队，1984年改为今名。[4]

2017年8月，锦城村被收入「福建省第二批省级传统村落」名录。2020年11月，村庄列入「2020年度南平市绿盈乡村中级版村庄」名单。2023年2月，村庄上榜「福建省第三批高级版绿盈乡村」名单。[1]

村域内的锦城遗址是福建省第六批省级文物保护单位，遗址情况另见临江镇。[2][5]
