历史沿革[edit]
民国时属临江镇。1950年代先后隶属临江乡、第三区和临江区，1958年属临江公社，1961年设余元大队，1984年改为今名。[3]
2022年12月，余元村被福建省爱国卫生运动委员会定为「2022年福建省卫生村」。[1]
