水东村是临江镇下辖的行政村，村域内205国道与省道花崇线相交，南面傍着临江溪。村名的来由是村子位于临江溪的东岸。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

民国时属临江镇。1950年代先后隶属临江乡、第三区和临江区，1958年起隶属临江公社，1961年分出水东大队，1984年改为今名。[3]

2020年11月，水东村列入「2020年度南平市绿盈乡村中级版村庄」名单。2021年2月，村庄上榜「2018-2020年度省级文明村镇社区」名单。2021年4月，水东村获评「2020年度福建省乡村振兴实绩突出村」。2022年10月，水东村被福建省农业农村厅列为「第二批福建省乡村治理示范村镇」。2024年2月，水东村被确定为「第二批福建省乡村振兴示范村镇」创建对象。[1]
