西后村位于太平镇境内，村名取自地处西山后方的位置。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
1934年此地归南平县第三区太平乡管辖，那时称后山保。1950年划入第九区西后乡，1958年为西后大队。后来在1984年设西后村村民委员会，1992年太平乡改制为太平镇。[2]

村民通行尤溪话，与杉岭村相同。[3]
