西芹镇位于延平区西南部，离延平城区约10公里，沙溪与富屯溪两河贯穿全镇。镇名旧称三芹与西津，清代改称西芹。镇内有开平寺、芹山战斗旧址等古迹和红色旧址，延平西站也设在集镇内。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

宋代此地属延平乡。明代的归属分散在开平里、梅东里、大外里以及长沙上下里之间，清代沿用明制。[3]

民国时期先后设第九区、第五区，1939年设西芹镇，1946年属南平县。1949年8月归第五区，1956年8月归西芹区。1958年11月组建火车头人民公社，次年改称西芹公社；1961年分出南洲、峰坪、坑底三个公社，1963年三社并回。1984年9月撤公社设镇，镇驻西芹村。1995年1月南平市改设为区，西芹归延平区。[3]

地理环境[edit]

全镇行政区域面积251平方千米，东邻夏道，西与沙县相接，南接塔前，北连来舟、茫荡。沙溪、富屯两河贯穿全镇。[1][2]

集镇距延平城区约10公里，离福银高速公路南平互通口约4公里。位于集镇内的延平西站是南龙铁路与外南铁路的接轨站，延平大桥横跨西溪。[1]

人口民族[edit]

第七次全国人口普查登记的常住人口为24285人，时点为2020年11月1日零时。[4]

名胜古迹[edit]

开平寺位于西芹村，初名报国显亲院，始建于五代后梁开平四年（910年），元代改为寺院。维基文库所载延平区第三次全国文物普查名录将其列为区级文物保护单位，名录标注年代为清代。[5][6][7]

芹山战斗旧址位于西芹苏区。1933年9月18日红五师第十三团在此击溃国民党十九路军的一个团，此战被收入《军事辞海》。[1]

西芹苏区革命旧址东方军司令部也在镇内，与芹山战斗旧址同属本镇的红色文化遗迹。[1]

长建村头庵革命旧址位于长建村村头自然村，为区级文物保护单位。[1][8]

高坪鸳鸯石位于茫荡山的红旗峰之巅，海拔1363米，石体形似一对相偎的鸳鸯，是茫荡山自然风景保护区内的景点。[1]

大柳源峡谷在米山脚下的坑布村，峡谷内大小瀑布共36处。[1]

文化[edit]

镇内保存有高坪南剑戏、坂山曲艺、后甲畲歌等民俗，畲族“三月三”与高坪民俗文化节也是重要的民间节庆。[1]

每年农历八月十四，禾村猎神庙前要举行“过火坪”仪式：先在庙前空坪上铺成炭床，待火旺后，由年轻男子赤脚穿过炭床。[1]
