水东街道在福建省南平市延平区，位于延平湖东岸。街道东边连到大洲岛，西侧有建溪流过，南面临闽江，北边直抵金鸡山；邻接的乡镇为南山、夏道与大横。街道名取自其地处建溪东侧之义。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

1934年时此地归城关一带的第一区管辖。1950年并入黄墩乡；1957年起归东坑郊区，1958年11月转入东坑红旗人民公社，次年又划为东坑公社的辖地。[3]

1982年5月水东街道设立，玉屏山社区同时成立，1988年又有大官社区建立。2001年11月撤去马站与水东街两个社区，2002年2月大官社区换称兴达社区。[3]

1992年11月，东坑乡撤销，塔下村、红星村划归街道管理。1995年1月撤市设区，街道归南平市延平区管辖。[3]

地理环境[edit]

延平区人民政府网站称街道的行政区域面积为108.9平方千米，博雅地名网则写作约40平方公里，两处均未注明统计年份。[1][2]

境内有省道S306（漳延线）和205国道穿过，铁路南平东线、外南铁路、峰福铁路与合福客运专线也经过此地，并设有延平东站与东溪站。[4]

街道居民以汉族为主。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

双石塔是明代的一对石塔，双塔均为七级八角的实心青石结构，东塔立于水东鲤鱼山顶，西塔在水南的九龙岩顶。[1][6]

双塔由沈太守于明万历三十三年（1605年）倡建，七县的官绅商民出资，万历三十五年建成。[1]

2012年9月，延平区人民政府在「第三次全国文物普查不可移动文物名录」中，把位于塔下村的东塔列为区级文物保护单位，时代为明代。[5]
