地名由来[edit]
据《1993年南平市志·地名志》，村委会驻地后谷，地处山凹，原写作「后堀」，因音近改作“谷”。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
明清时，该地一部分属剑津里，一部分属罗源里。1941年归进贤乡，名为后路保；1950年至1957年为第一区的东坑乡辖地。[1]
1958年设红旗公社，次年改东坑公社，此地成为后谷大队。1984年东坑公社更名东坑乡，大队随即改为后谷村委会。1993年东坑乡被撤，村委会改归水南街道。[1]
资源与荣誉[edit]
村内林木面积近万亩，毛竹、木材为主要资源，竹笋、食用菌和稻谷为特色产品。村民多从事种养殖业，部分收入来自长富乳业有限公司等企业。[2]
1990年代，村庄获福建省政府授予「省级明星村」称号。[2]
