地方名称[edit]
相传最早开垦此地的是兰、雷、钟、盘四姓先民，当时称作大片公。其中盘姓一人远渡海外，留话说风水在坪头显现之日便是他归来之时。如今坪头的风水尖已经显露而他未归，村民遂取坪头的「坪」字与风水的「水」字为村名。[1]
人口民族[edit]
村民为畲族，保留着较完整的畲族民俗，畲族口语称「山哈」，村中流传源流歌、族规歌、耕种歌和娱乐歌等山歌。[2]

年平均气温21℃，年降雨量约1700毫米，属亚热带季风雨林气候。[1]

国家林业和草原局发布的第二批国家森林乡村名单中有坪水村，公布时间为2019年12月。[1]
2020年2月，坪水村列入「福建省第三批省级传统村落」名单。[1]
2020年11月，坪水村入选「2020年福建省金牌旅游村」名单。[1]
2020年12月，坪水村入选「2020年度福建省“一村一品”示范村」（乡村旅游）名单。[1]
2021年8月，坪水村入选「第三批全国乡村旅游重点村」名单。[1]
2021年10月，农业农村部向外推介坪水村，它获评「2021年中国美丽休闲乡村」。[1]
2021年12月，坪水村被确定为「福建省第二批高级版绿盈乡村（乡镇）」。[1]
2024年1月，坪水村被命名为「2023年福建省卫生村」。[1]
