据博雅地名网，村名取自村民委员会驻村中心、村民群居的情形。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
公社时期的大队部设在村头；因村头处在大队的中心，大队便以「村中」为名。民国时隶属村竹乡的村竹保，之后的初级社归南坑乡，公社化以后定名村中大队。[1]
经济[edit]
全村土地共2.25万亩，耕地1919亩，山地2.04万亩；蜜柚种植面积4900亩。[1]
