地名与历史沿革[edit]
后马村与前马村同处马鞍形的地形，因位于南正院山前，改称后马垵，后又改为今名。古时称后马鞍。[1]
清代属诏安县五都四图樟塘保的后马鞍村，民国时归东山县中兴镇的马鞍保。建国后并入三区古马乡。1959年改隶康美公社的古马大队，1966年自古马大队独立成后马大队。1984年为樟塘乡后马村，1993年改称樟塘镇后马村。[1][2]
村落由许姓、陈姓两姓人氏于清代建立，沿用至今。[1]
