地理与人口[edit]
村子东邻新春村，西接潭光村，南与后溪西村相连，北与新厝村相接。全村有978户、3923人，分为24个村民小组，村总耕地3098亩，其中水田1567亩。[2]
村子地处平原，呈长方形，吴姓为多，居民讲闽南话。村中有医疗室、幼儿园与机砖厂各一处，西潭中心小学和西潭中学离村不到1千米。[2]
斗山岩寺[edit]
斗山岩位于村内，岩上建有斗山岩寺。据博雅地名网所载，该寺有千年的历史，香火一直很旺。[2]
交通[edit]
省道诏和线紧靠村子西侧，厦深铁路诏安站设在村内石碑岭山上。[2]
历史沿革[edit]
解放初属第三区西潭乡，此后归第六区管辖。1958年起隶属西潭大队，1959年并入红旗公社，1961年划入西潭人民公社，设潭东大队，1984年改为西潭乡潭东村。[1]
