地名由来[edit]
村庄地处湖西盆地边缘的山区，群山重叠，万山围成一处如同山洞的地形，故名后洞。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
明清两代，此地划入二十八都。解放后一段时期，后洞归湖西乡城内村管辖。1958年9月设后洞大队，归赤湖公社管理，1961年7月划入湖西公社。[1]
1984年改为后洞村委会，沿用至今。[1]
