运头村位于霞美镇北部，村东两条溪流汇合后流入浮头湾，汇合处冲积出一小山头，村庄即建在其上，因此得名运头[1]。村中有庆云楼土楼，建于1569年[2]。

历史[edit]

1980年村庄从所在大队分设为独立的运头大队。1984年改为霞美乡运头村，1990年随乡改镇，沿用至今。[1]

经济[edit]

全村耕地以水稻为主，兼种番薯和蔬菜，靠后井水库渠道灌溉。山地部分造林，部分种果。[1]
