西潘村位于赤湖镇境内，东邻半石村，西邻前张村。[1][3]

村名与一条溪有关：赤湖溪在村西，“西”与溪字谐音；旧时村民在溪边淘米煮饭，“潘”字的本义正是淘米。1984年，西潘改为村委会。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

清代，西潘属十七都赤水保。1934年成立西潘保，隶属赤水联保；1943年改隶赤湖乡。[2]

新中国初期，西潘设乡，属第六区赤湖区。1984年改为西潘村委会，沿用至今。[2]
