历史沿革[edit]
此地在清代隶属十七都石门下保，民国初年归外东区佛昙镇管辖。1940年前后，坂顶尾单设坂顶保，东门兜与园中央合设园中保；1944年两保并为园东保。[1]
新中国成立初，园东划入第五区佛昙区。1958年9月设立园东生产大队，1984年9月改按镇建制设行政村。[1][2]
人口与姓氏[edit]
早年村中住着游姓，如今以杨姓为主，多数人家出自佛昙杨氏始祖世隆公的长房大成公一脉。[2]
经济[edit]
耕地1320亩，其中七百五十亩为水田；另有虾池四百多亩，鲍鱼池十余口。[2]
佛昙镇工业开发区设在园东境内的香山新区，村里有多家工厂。[2]
园东街上的「双桃豆仁饼」老店，「双桃」是佛昙三大名优特产之一。[2]
