地名由来[edit]
村子坐落在南面山脚，靠近茂密的山林边缘，原名林尾。「美」与「尾」读音相近，于是改称林美。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
民国23年村属东英乡的林高保；民国32年东英乡撤销，林高转归旧镇镇。新中国初期设为第四区的林高乡，1956年10月林高并入甘林乡，划归旧镇区。1958年9月设旧镇公社的林尾大队，1984年9月定名为林美村。[2]
姓氏[edit]
林美社以杨姓为主，有内祖、外祖两座祠堂，祖源佛昙镇，是宋末杨太后内侄杨盛（世隆公）的后裔。熊林原名临林，因读音讹变改称，居民多为杨姓，由林美分衍而来；高仔林原名柯仔林，以陈姓为主，祖源白水镇郊边。[2]

林美社有帝爷公庙，祀玄天上帝；高仔林社有王公庙，祀陈圣王。[2]
