村名由新岩村和吴田村两村名各取首字合成。[1]
1984年设立村民委员会。[1]
地理与资源[edit]
村落在吴田山半山腰，土地总面积2万多亩，平均海拔约650米。[3]
该村属吴田矿区辖内，矿产以花岗石为主，可采面积3000亩以上，发展运输、开采和板材加工等行业，解决了600多人的就业。[1][2]

村内主要种植闽南特产龙须菜、佛手瓜和砂仁，并有香蕉种植，各类作物的种植面积以数百亩和千亩计。[1][2]
