建制变迁[edit]
清代，这里归龙溪县二十八都乌礁保管辖。民国28年划入龙溪县第六区，民国36年隶属乌礁乡的西良保。[2]
1952年本地成为龙溪县第四区的西良乡，1955年归城内区，1956年3月改隶平宁区的锦田乡。1958年撤区，同年并入海鹰公社。[2]
1959年3月，它成为紫泥公社的西良大队；1984年建乡后称紫泥乡西良村，1992年撤乡建镇。[2]
北岸篮[edit]
北岸社农民在明末清初于港边栽竹护岸，农闲时用竹子编织畚箕和篮子，手艺渐渐精巧，篮子美观实用，名声传遍闽南，人们便以社名称之为北岸篮。[2][3]
北岸篮按大小分为八种。大号篮用来装米粿，由两人抬着送人；中号篮是婚嫁时女方盛放嫁妆的用具；小号篮曾用来装白银；最小的只当作工艺品欣赏。大号和中号篮的盖子能让人站上去而不变形。[2]
姓氏与宗祠[edit]
郭氏宗祠位于北岸自然村，1999年修葺。祠堂坐北朝南，正中大门两侧各开一扇边门，中间有天井，前面是广场，广场东边设有老人活动中心。[2]
宫庙[edit]
皇津宫位于港西社，主祈神医吴夲。鳌头宫位于洲头社，相传吴夲年少时曾随洲头村民下海捕鱼，村民因此对他感情深厚。[2]
鳌头宫始建年代不详，明洪武年间重修，清康熙年间在原址重建并改换朝向，1985年再次修整成今天的样子。大殿正中主祀保生大帝，左右配祀玄天上帝和注生娘娘。每年三月望日保生大帝圣诞，村里会举行庆贺活动。[2]
