梅市社区是港尾镇的镇中心区社区，与梅市村同处镇政府所在一带，历来是港尾的农贸集市所在。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

解放前，此地为海澄县港尾镇下的梅市保。解放初改归第三区，设梅市乡；公社时期成为港尾公社的梅市大队，两县合并后仍用此名。[1]

1984年起，港尾乡在此设梅市居委会；1988年港尾乡改镇，居委会的建制一直延续到今天。[1]

名称来历[edit]

地名取自此处背靠梅岭的地势。港尾的农贸集市就设在这里，每逢杨梅上市，多在此交易，地名由此而来。[1]

荣誉[edit]

2016年5月，福建省人民政府把梅市社区列入「第五批福建省历史文化名镇名村」。[1]
