新桥街道位于福建省漳州市芗城区东南部，南面濒临九龙江北岸。街道内有威镇阁等古迹，民俗文化以芗剧、大鼓凉伞为代表。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

据博雅地名网，明代曾在辖区内建起一座跨越九龙江西溪、连接市区南北两岸的「东新桥」，街道由此得名。[1]

1955年2月15日，新桥街道办事处设立。1960年起该地改作人民公社体制，称新桥街道人民公社，三年后重新恢复办事处的名称。1968年10月，设立了新桥人民公社的革命委员会，到1980年7月1日才回到原来的建制。[1]

1985年7月，漳州改为地级市，原先的县级漳州市改设为芗城区，新桥街道自此隶属芗城区。[1]

地理环境[edit]

街道东以九龙大道为界，西接新华南路，南抵九龙江北岸，北以新浦路为界。博雅地名网在概况中写作面积2.59平方千米，同一网站的数据项却为约3.1平方千米，两者均未注明测量年份，此处一并列出。[1][2]

街道内保留的民俗文化有芗剧、大鼓凉伞和舞龙队等，都带有闽南地方特色。[2]

街道近年获得的荣誉称号有「漳州市创建全国文明城市工作先进单位」「福建省五好侨胞之家」「福建省关心下一代工作先进集体」「漳州市先进基层武装部」「全市计划生育协会乡镇级先进单位」和「全国侨联系统“侨胞之家”典型选树单位」，页面未注授予年份。[2]

名胜古迹[edit]

威镇阁俗称「八卦楼」，位于漳州大桥北端桥头，是漳州市区的标志性文化旅游景点之一。[2] 它原为漳州古城东南角的城楼，后改建成八角形三层木结构阁楼，始建于明隆庆六年（1572年），一说为万历六年（1578年）。[3] 阁楼在清初战乱中被焚毁，直到乾隆年间的1737年才重建；1970年，建设战备大桥时它被拆掉。1997年动工重建，1999年竣工，新建的阁楼同样为三层八角形。[3]
