霞光社区属官桥镇的镇中心区，由原周厝村民委员会拆分而成，名称寓迎接朝阳光辉之意。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

明清时此地属南安三十五、三十六都，民国时分作周厝保与毫光保。新中国成立初并为周厝乡；其后1958年设周厝、下寮两个大队，1965年归并为周厝大队，1984年又成为周厝村民委员会。[1]

2000年5月，原周厝村被撤除，其中三个自然村另组霞光居民委员会。[1]
