美林街道隶属福建省泉州市南安市，位于市区北部，东北与康美镇交界，东邻丰州镇，西北与仑苍、眉山、省新三镇相接。街道总面积59.1平方千米，辖8个居委会和12个村委会。[1]

地名「美林」原作「马林」。据博雅地名网，五代后梁开平年间王审知入闽，南安县在此设养马场；这里溪边竹林翠绿、草地连片，宜于放牧，故名马林。后写成「美林」以求雅训，闽南话至今仍读马林。另一说法称，五代时黄姓人从罗东的马林崎迁入，垦荒后沿称马林。[2]

街道位于西溪北岸的河谷盆地，属亚热带海洋性季风气候。[3]

美林街道在2011年4月获环境保护部颁发「2011年度国家级生态乡镇」称号。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

宋代，今街道境内分属唐安乡和金鸡乡，两乡之下各有若干里。[2][3]

元、明、清三代此地属二十二至二十五都，民国时设从仁乡。[2]

1949年后一度划为第三区。1958年城关一带组成卫星人民公社，美林也在其中；1961年另设美林区，统辖美林、李西、玉叶、南金四个小公社；1965年撤区后改称美林人民公社。[2]

1985年改为美林乡，1988年改为美林镇。撤镇设街道的年份，两处记载不一：百度百科称1998年9月1日撤销美林镇，同时设立美林街道和省新镇；博雅地名网作1999年拆镇改为街道办事处。[3][2]

经济[edit]

经济以铝业制造、鞋服轻纺和消防水暖为主。[3]

2020年9月，阿里研究院公布「2020年淘宝镇」名单，街道名列其中。2021年10月，「2021年淘宝镇」名单由南京大学空间规划研究中心与阿里研究院共同发布，街道再度入选。2022年10月，「2022年淘宝镇」名单发布，街道第三次上榜。[2]
