社区起初于1999年以湖滨社区之名设立，2006年才定名为湖新。[1][3]

名称中的“湖”字，博雅地名网说取其靠近柳湖。[1]

地理环境[edit]

社区东至湖新路，西至双塘路，南至湖中路，北至新华路，面积0.35平方千米。[2]

文化[edit]

2021年2月，社区入选「福建省2018-2020年度省级文明村镇社区」名单。[1]
