民主社区隶属南安市溪美街道，位于南安市区中心、西溪南岸，南邻中山社区。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

社区原名东北街，后又称东北街居委会、民主街居委会。民主街古称炭埔街，新中国成立后此街扩建了一段，为体现民主作风而取名。[1][3]

社区的居委会原叫东北节，1980年12月改称民主街居委会；直到2003年才设立民主社区居委会。[2][3]

地理环境[edit]

社区东与柳城街道新华社区接壤，北面隔溪与美林街道相望，美林大桥连通两岸，省道308线从社区穿过。[2]

经济[edit]

居民多以开店经商为生，辖区内的中山街、民主街是两条主要街道。[2]

文化[edit]

社区的油条、贡糖、春卷、嫩饼等小吃历史悠久。[2]
