村名的由来是村庄坐落在一条溪的后面。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

宋代属安仁乡劝善里，明清属十四都，1944年属英林镇烧溪保。[2]

1959年设龙湖公社溪后大队，1961年改称新溪大队；1984年设新溪村委会，1986年新溪村委会一分为四，溪后为其中之一，1991年改隶龙湖镇。[2]

人口民族[edit]

龙湖镇政府2021年公布的行政村信息载，村里常住1334人，外来人口185人，党员30名。[1]

经济[edit]

村民收入主要依靠农业，村内也有服装生产与农作物种植。[2]

村里规模以上企业有福鑫纺织有限公司，另有晋江凯旋制衣织造有限公司等企业。[1]
