赤塘村是池店镇下辖的行政村，紧邻晋江下游，距镇政府驻地约2公里，与洋茂村、钱头村相邻。[2]村内有赤塘、高厝两个自然村，以赤塘自然村为主村。[2]村名由古寺福安寺得名，原作金塘，后改为赤塘。[1]

地名由来[edit]

村中有一座古寺福安寺，寺前有池塘，塘水常泛金黄色，故称金塘。后来取金色久变为赤色之意，村名改为赤塘。[1]村民以林姓居多，也有张、陈等姓。部分林姓村民迁居洋茂村，因此又有赤塘洋茂之称。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

赤塘在明清属三十都，1944年归青阳乡金登保。[1]建国后经历较多变动：1956年并入池店乡，1959年成为苏厝公社下的赤塘大队，1961年归池店公社。1971年被改称五一大队，1980年才恢复赤塘大队的名称，1984年设村委会。[1]

荣誉[edit]

赤塘村于2024年1月被命名为「2023年福建省卫生村」。[1]该村在2020年和2022年两次入选淘宝村名单。[1]
