村又称塘里，村背后有洪塘溪，村名由溪名而来。[2]

地名由来[edit]

洪塘溪有三条支流在此汇合，下游接梅塘港。上游土埔的赤土被雨水冲下，溪水泛红，海潮涨时成一片赤水，村因此取名洪塘。[2]

沿革[edit]

宋时隶属安仁乡仁和里，明清为九都，1944年改属东石镇。[2]
