荆山社区属晋江市新塘街道，位于晋江市东南部，东南与石狮市接壤。村名源于此地古时林木丛生、荆刺遍布的环境。博雅地名网载，社区于2003年11月由村改设居委会，另一处记载为2004年10月由村改为社区。[1][2]

地名由来[edit]

此地背靠大北山脉，古时林木遍布、荆刺丛生，故名荆山。社区居委会的名称沿用其所辖自然村群的名称。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

荆山原属泉州晋江，宋代属安仁乡聚仁里，元明清改乡里为二十六都。1944年属大同乡湖林保。1956年划归栖梧区上郭乡，1961年并入罗山公社梧林大队，1984年隶属罗山乡梧林村委会。1985年自梧林析出，单设荆山村委会。此后改为社区居委会，隶属新塘街道。[1][2]

地理环境[edit]

社区土地总面积1.05平方千米，地势自东南向西北降低。村民依山而居，一条村道自荆山入口延伸至郭厝，全长近3千米。[1]

人口民族[edit]

社区由王厝、郭厝、吴厝、新乡四个自然村组成。博雅地名网载全社区人口1125人、301户，未注明统计年份；居民有汉、回两个民族，其中郭厝为回族，其余为汉族。[1][2]
