地名由来[edit]
南宋乾道年间，泉南一带为抗旱开凿七首塘。村落建于其中洑田塘的南岸，起初称南塘；后因村中商铺增多，形成长街集市，称为长市；「长」与「塘」闽南语读音相近，遂改称塘市。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
1949年共和国成立后属晋江县第五区，1956年归栖梧区后洋乡，1961年成为罗山公社塘市大队；1984年设罗山乡塘市村委会，1991年起称罗山镇塘市村委会。2003年11月起改属新塘街道，设塘市社区居委会。[1]
地理环境[edit]
社区东邻石狮市雪上村，北接杏田与杏坂，西与后洋、上郭交界。拥有水田耕地1400多亩。[1]
人口民族[edit]

社区原为曾、孙、吴、林等多姓杂居之地，后柯氏先祖迁入定居，并建祠堂一座以奉先祖，今柯氏后裔在晋江繁衍。[2]

文化[edit]
2024年1月，社区被命名为「2023年福建省卫生社区」；2021年6月，被命名为「2020年度晋江市平安村（社区）」，评为三星级。[1]
