车厝社区位于晋江市西北部，东连霞浯社区，北与泉州汽车基地为邻。它是西园街道最大的行政社区，也是侨乡，有不少居民的亲属侨居菲律宾、印尼、新加坡和马来西亚。[1]

村名车厝源于古时车姓最早在此建居。20世纪40年代还留有车姓祖厝的遗迹，此后车姓渐衰或外迁，他姓迁入，仍沿用原名。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

明清时属泉州府南门外三十一都，民国时属晋江碧山镇，解放后曾属池店区，较长时间属磁灶公社。2003年划归西园街道。[2]

人口与宗族[edit]

社区居民以王姓居多。车厝王氏始祖国和公原籍南安，元末在此定居。[2]

名胜古迹[edit]

王起教宅在社区内，清光绪年间始建（1893年），建筑面积5328平方米，兼有中西合璧的风格，为市级文物保护单位。[3][4][5]

王起教（1863—1928）是旅菲侨商、实业家和慈善家。1936年，他在车厝大修王氏宗祠，并牵头创办辗进小学，即今车厝小学。[4]

王起教还曾在十三省大道旁建三座雨亭，供行人避雨。[2]

经济[edit]

社区内的企业主要生产陶瓷、机械配件、鞋类、涂料和卫生巾材料。[2]
