地名由来[edit]
社区原称震西。当地早年生活贫苦，闽南方言以「赤」指贫困，村名遂改称赤西。[1]
住户以张氏为主，张氏的开基始祖自他处迁居于此。[2]
历史沿革[edit]
宋代隶属永宁乡和风里，明清时属二十九都。新中国成立后，先归池店区苏厝乡管辖，1959年设苏厝公社赤西大队；到1961年转入陈埭公社，1984年成为陈埭镇下属村委会。[1]
2003年11月，赤西自陈埭镇分出，改属梅岭街道，建为赤西社区居委会。[1]
人文[edit]
社区内有震西祠堂，始建年代已久，几经修葺，为张氏子孙祭拜祖先的主要场所。[2]
居民历来有手工制作米粉的传统。[2]
荣誉[edit]
2021年6月，社区获评「2020年度晋江市平安村（社区）」。[1]
