新沙堤村位于永宁镇东北端，南临大海，北隔将军山与锦尚深埕相望。[2]

村址早年别名新桑边，古称佛堂，曾是一个废村，1949年后重建。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

宋元时期已有李氏在此居住。明代宣德、正统年间，谢氏族人自泉州金鱼巷迁来定居。[2]

倭患时，佛堂一带是倭寇登陆的要冲，屡遭骚扰，村民遂举族迁往将军山北麓的深埕，佛堂随之废村，地名也渐渐无人知晓。《闽书》与《晋江县志》中仍载有“佛堂澳”，为海寇出入的必经之地。[2]

1949年，村民在此重建新村，定名新沙堤，俗称“新生边”。[2]

1984年成立新沙堤村民委员会。[1]
