地名由来[edit]
一说村址位于五虎山南麓的山尾，旧称“山尾”，后雅称“沙美”；另一说，“沙美”取自“金沙”“美江”两词，因溪中卵石色彩斑斓、两岸白沙如金。[2]
历史沿革[edit]
旧时潮水可引船只溯溪而上，直抵蓬莱（今称蜂内）或都公宫前的码头，货物与鱼获在此集散，市集由此成街，名为“海仙街”。20世纪60年代，村中仍有刻字石碑，以及约0.5千米长、断续的古街残迹，之后随石永大道拓宽而拆除。[2]
沙美于1984年改名沙美村民委员会，此前1958年为沙美大队，1956年设沙美高级社。[1]
村中一度改称前进大队，石狮建市后仍归永宁镇。[2]
姓氏宗族[edit]
村中多卢姓。卢氏族谱称，其先祖来自光州固始县，元末明初在永宁古卫城西一带定居。[2]
