地名由来[edit]
明代此地原为张氏聚居，后来高氏迁入并人丁兴旺，张氏渐渐稀少，高氏聚居之地于是被称为“高厝”。村中部分人迁入永宁城内居住后，城外的高厝便被称作“外高”。[3]
历史沿革[edit]
清道光版《晋江县志》称这里为“寨下”。清初为防备郑成功的进攻，清政府在此设东、西两座寨子，俗称“寨仔”，实为炮台；东寨在民国初年毁没，东南隅的另一座至20世纪60年代仍留有轮廓。寨墙全长19.7米，高3.16米，宽2.5米，墙上设枪眼，可置数门火炮。[2]
1956年设外高高级社，此后经大队建制调整，1984年改称外高村民委员会。[1]
